When is the best time to book a newborn session? If you’re expecting a baby in the Jacksonville, Florida area and searching for a Jacksonville newborn photographer, my biggest piece of advice is simple: don’t wait until your baby is here.
As a Jacksonville newborn photographer serving Green Cove Springs, St. Augustine, Orange Park, St. Johns County, and surrounding areas, I stay pretty busy. And I am always very honest about that because I would much rather have you know ahead of time that my calendar fills than have you reach out after your baby is born and find out I don’t have the flexibility you were hoping for.
For most families, the second trimester is the best time to book your newborn photography session.
If you’re looking for newborn photography in Jacksonville or the surrounding areas, booking during your second trimester gives you the best opportunity to get your due date on my calendar before my availability fills.
You don’t necessarily need to have your exact delivery plans figured out. In fact, babies are going to do what babies do, and very few of them care about our carefully planned schedules!
I intentionally pre-book 15 newborn sessions each month. I keep my calendar at that number because it gives me room to be flexible when babies arrive earlier or later than expected.
It also allows me to have something that is really important to me: time with my own family. I want to be able to attend after-school activities, spend time with my kids, and have a life outside of the studio while still giving my newborn clients the attention and flexibility they deserve.
Because of that, my Jacksonville newborn photography calendar can fill quickly.
So if you’re in your second trimester right now, this is your sign to get your newborn session booked.
If you’re reading this after your baby has already arrived, don’t panic!
It’s always worth reaching out to see if I have some wiggle room in my calendar.
I will always look at what I can do.
Just keep in mind that my wiggle-room days aren’t nearly as flexible as my pre-booked newborn session times. When you book ahead, I have your due date and expected timeframe on my calendar and can plan around it. When you reach out after your baby has arrived, we’re working around whatever openings I happen to have available.
So yes, reach out! You might get lucky. But if you’re still pregnant, booking ahead gives you the best chance of getting the date and timeframe that works for you.
One of the things I pride myself on as a Jacksonville-area newborn photographer is keeping the entire newborn photography experience as streamlined and simple as possible.
Booking your session doesn’t have to be complicated.
You pay a small retainer fee to reserve your spot, and that retainer is applied toward your newborn package. It’s not an additional fee on top of your session. You’re not paying money just to hold a date and then paying everything again later.
I want the process to feel easy from the beginning.
And once you arrive at my Green Cove Springs studio, you don’t need to show up with a car full of baby gear.
My studio is fully stocked for newborn sessions.
I have wraps, props, outfits, bonnets, headbands, backdrops, and all of the little details we need to create your gallery.
So no, you don’t need to go shopping for a special newborn outfit or buy a bunch of props you’ll probably never use again.
I’ve got it covered.
Of course, if you have something special you’d like incorporated into your session, you’re always welcome to bring it. But you don’t have to.Your Jacksonville Newborn Session Doesn’t Need to Take All Day
I’ve been photographing newborns for 16 years, and one thing I’ve learned is that newborn photography doesn’t need to be an all-day event.
I have a very streamlined workflow, and my newborn sessions are typically under two hours.
Why?
Because my goal isn’t to keep you and your baby in an 80-degree room for hours while everyone gets hot, sweaty, and exhausted.
Yes, babies are going to fuss.
They’re going to whine a little.
They’re going to wiggle.
They might decide that whatever pose I had planned is absolutely unacceptable.
They’re babies!
I’m moving them around, wrapping them, changing their position, and generally messing with their very tiny schedules. Of course they’re going to get a little unsettled sometimes.
The goal isn’t to force a baby through a list of poses.
The goal is to go with the flow of your baby and create gorgeous images along the way.
That’s why having an efficient workflow matters so much.
You shouldn’t have to choose between beautifully posed newborn portraits and genuine, in-the-moment photographs.
With me, you get both.
As a newborn photographer in the Jacksonville area, I incorporate both posed and lifestyle photography into my newborn sessions.
When we photograph the family portion of your session, I like to incorporate a little bit of lifestyle photography.
That means you’ll get those beautiful traditional family portraits, but we’ll also capture the little moments in between.
The cuddles.
The way you look at your baby.
Your toddler interacting with their new sibling.
The little smiles and imperfect moments that actually tell the story of what it felt like to have a brand-new baby in your family.
I want you to walk away with the full story, not just the highlights.
I do the same thing with the baby-only portion of your session.
We’ll capture lifestyle-inspired images of your baby simply being your baby — their tiny details, the way they naturally curl up, their little hands and feet, those sleepy moments, and all of the things you’ll want to remember.
And then we’ll also create those beautiful posed newborn portraits.
So you don’t have to decide between lifestyle or posed newborn photography.
You get the best of both worlds.
And the best part?
You get all of this without having to clean your home for an in-home lifestyle session.
My Green Cove Springs studio is ready for you, just outside Jacksonville.
Booking during your second trimester gives you one less thing to worry about later.
Once your session is reserved, you can move on to the fun stuff: getting ready for your baby, planning the nursery, buying approximately one million tiny things you probably don’t need, and wondering how something so small can possibly require so much stuff.
Meanwhile, your newborn photos are already taken care of.
You don’t have to worry about finding a newborn photographer in Jacksonville after you’ve delivered.
You don’t have to hope someone has a last-minute opening.
You don’t have to scramble to find props or outfits.
And you don’t have to spend hours preparing your home.
You simply show up at my studio, and we take care of the rest.
So if you’ve been thinking about booking your newborn session, don’t wait.
Let’s get your little one on my calendar!
