When Is the Best Time to Get Newborn Photos Done?

If you’ve been wondering when the best time is to schedule your newborn photos, you’re not alone! This is one of the most common questions I get from new parents at Witney Ann Photography here in Jacksonville, Florida.

While there’s what photographers often call a “sweet spot” for newborn photography, the truth is it can vary baby to baby.

The Ideal Window for Newborn Photos

Most newborn photographers will tell you that the best time to schedule your session is within the first two weeks after birth. It is usually between 7 to 14 days old. Around this age, babies are still very sleepy, flexible, and naturally curly. This helps us achieve those sweet, womb-like poses.

That being said, every baby is different. I’ve photographed plenty of three- and even four-week-old newborns who slept better than some two-week-olds! For me and my Jacksonville newborn studio, I consider anything up to four weeks old to still be the perfect time for newborn photos.

What If You Missed the “Sweet Spot”?

Let’s be honest. Those first few weeks of newborn life can be a blur. Between sleepless nights, feeding schedules, and adjusting to your new normal, it’s completely understandable if you forget to book your newborn photos right away.

Please know that your baby is never too old for me to photograph. Whether your little one is 2 weeks or five weeks old, I will still do everything I can to capture their tiny details, expressions, and cuddly moments. Even if they’re not eight pounds anymore, they’re still your new baby. Those memories deserve to be preserved.
